The Ministry of Interior turned off the lights in its headquarter and its other buildings in line with its participation in the Earth Hour event held under the title “I will if you will, the world challenge for Earth.” The event took place from 8:30 till 9:30 on Saturday evening along with the global campaign aiming to spread awareness about the Global Warming effect, and the importance of reducing energy consumption and environment protection.
The participation came in accordance with the directions of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The directions highlight the importance of participating in the Earth Hour event to limit the effects of the world climate changes, and reduce the consumption of energy. The event also aims to promote the culture of rational consumption and eliminate the waste of energy, to contribute in achieving the required sustainable development.
After turning off the lights, Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior office, noted the importance of this environmental initiative, and the Ministry’s concerns with respect to the climate change issues. Also he highlighted the Ministry’s commitment in supporting the international efforts that aim at facing the Global Warming phenomenon and creating more awareness among the society to care about the environment.
Major General Al Nuaimi added that the Ministry’s participation in this initiative is a result of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior vision that shows interest in various community-related issues including the protection of the environment. This issue is acquiring more interest with time in line with the increase of the environmental awareness.
He said that the strategy of the Federal Government, the UAE 2021 Vision and the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision all come to emphasize the keenness and interest to unify the national efforts towards increasing awareness in line with the environmental issues, the sustainable development, and the ability to face the present and the future challenges.
He added that this participation comes in line with the police sector emphasis to reduce the Global Warming effects and increase awareness among the society about the importance of saving the energy and protecting the planet. The initiative also promotes the participation of the society in environment protection activities.
He also called for cooperation with the other countries around the world to work on increasing awareness about the carbon emissions, which the scientists find responsible for the Global Warming of the planet, and to benefit of the modern technologies to face this phenomenon.
Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations said that the participation of the Ministry reflects its endeavor to be a role model in this regard, saying that the culture of rational consumption is a social responsibility and a national duty as well.
Al Raisi added that the green Information Technologies play a vital role in helping governments and institutions to use such technologies in a more responsible manner through the adoption of techniques that rationalize the energy usage. This is accomplished by the purchase of necessary equipment, or by adopting behaviors that promote the intelligent usage of energy through spreading awareness among individuals.
