The Ministry of Interior reiterated its support to the efforts aimed at protecting the environment on the World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5 of each year, as per the directives of H.H. Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior which stress the importance of environmental life and the need to preserve it in light with the climate changes witnessed by different regions of the world.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior reaffirmed the keenness of the higher leadership to preserve the environment to achieve sustainable development in the nation, and make it a role model to support global efforts. He pointed out to the Ministry of Interior’s efforts in the environmental field, through the attention given to the issue of climate change and its commitment to support global efforts to address global warming.

Al Nuaimi added that the Ministry of Interior’s participation in the different environmental activities and initiatives comes in line with H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior’s vision aimed at addressing the various community-based issues, particularly environmental protection, which gained increased attention with the increase of environmental awareness year after year.

For his part, Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police, stressed Abu Dhabi Police’s great attention to preserve the environment. He reasserted that protecting the environment and the planet Earth is a joint task upon all community members whereas we all need to contribute diligently, and with determination, in order to elevate the level of environmental culture among the various segments of society.

Badran pointed out that the UAE has always been keen to intervene at the legislative level to maintain and protect the environment from pollution by enacting laws and decisions and taking part in the relevant international conventions in this regard. He also noted that the UAE has promulgated several laws to counter environmental pollution.

Moreover, Badran added that Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters’ efforts and achievements come in line with its mission to promote the environment, pointing out that Abu Dhabi Police is one of the first government institutions to acquire the Integrated Administrative System’s certification, which include the International quality certification ISO 9001:2008, the environmental certification 12001:2004, as well as the Health and Safety Certification 18001: 2007. It is worth noting that these certifications were acquired by the Finance and Services General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police. Moreover, around 522 cars were converted to run on natural gas as part of Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts to reduce pollution and maintain a clean environment thus completing more than the required ratio for 2011, which is to convert 10% of the 511 cars owned by the ADP’s General Headquarters, as mentioned upon the launching of the operational plan.

For his part, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Police Central Operations, stated that the MoI’s participation in the various activities and events of the June 5th World Environment Day to protect the environment comes in line with the police leadership solicitude to participate in the protection of planet Earth, and to call on all police force members being one of segments of society, to engage in the multiple community-based environmental activities which benefit society as a whole. He also urged everybody to cooperate and intensify their efforts in order to raise environmental awareness.
