This announcement has been made by Lt. Colonel Sultan Suwaih al Darmaki, Head of Anti-Narcotics Section at ADP. “The Section monitors closely the use of chemical materials and precursors in those firms, in addition to ensuring that these chemical materials are not used for drugs production purposes. This is because of increase in their use for commercial manufacture purposes, such as plastic, aluminum, fiberglass, oil pipes cleaning, paints and others.
The total number of agencies visited by CID inspection teams, during the first half of this year, to ensure their compliance with chemical precursors selling, purchasing and importing, was 295 agencies.
The total number of agencies working in Abu Dhabi, which use chemical materials and precursors in their commercial activities, is 443. Of these, 50 were warned during the first half of this year, for violating conditions related to the use of internationally monitored chemical materials and precursors, which may be used in drugs production.
In respect of warning given to the violating firms, Al Darmaki said “All warnings have been received by the general managers of these firms, in order to comply with the required conditions. The warnings start with an initial warning, then a warning accompanied by closing down of the firm. The warning duration ranges between one week and two months, according to the seriousness of the violation. In the third stage the firm will be closed down and its licence will be withdrawn”.
“Periodical inspection operations will be carried out on any firm its activity involves chemical materials, such as paints companies, detergents, ink laboratories, cosmetics, general trading companies and others. This step aims to implement ADP GHQ plan to achieve the strategic objective of proactive crime prevention.
