Brigadier Hamad Aajlan Al Amimi, Director of Al Ain Police Directorate declared that the number of beggars in the city of Al Ain has decreased by 65 percent during the Holy Month of Ramadan, compared with last year; adding that only 10 male beggars of different nationalities were arrested this year, in residential neighborhoods, in possession of different kind of currencies.

Al Amimi attributed this decrease to the level of awareness among citizens, residents, and community institutions; as well as police members’ efforts to curb beggary. He noted that beggars also took into account the legal accountability and punishment they may face, pointing out to the cooperation and coordination with social sectors in this regard.

Moreover, Al Amimi mentioned that teams were formed since the beginning of Ramadan in order to monitor places where beggars may gather, such as markets, residential neighborhoods and mosques; in addition to awareness programs to educate community members and urge them to combat the scourge of beggary.

Concluding, Al Amimi called on citizens and residents to be extremely cautious and to collaborate continuously with police members by reporting any case of beggary they may witness around markets and homes, in order to maintain their community and money from crime.
