Security Inspection Dept. carried out 3549 operations in 2009
The Department of Security Inspection (K9), of the Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police carried out 3549 tasks in Abu Dhabi Emirate in 2009. 1265 carried out by Abu Dhabi Section, 1388 by Al Ain Section and 896 by the Western Region Section. 31 training courses were organized inside and outside the UAE.
Lt. Colonel Jamal Habash, Director of the Department stated that the cases were ranging between inspection operations, security maintenance, participations, visits and detection of some cases.
The criminal cases dealt with were 23 in Abu Dhabi, 36 in Al Ain and one case in the Western Region, including thefts, tracking, absence and missing items. Drugs and explosives inspections were 1215 carried out by Abu Dhabi Section, 1273 by Al Ain Section and 239 in the Western Region. 18 visits were paid to security and civil sectors to present police dogs shows. Police dogs participated in 40 different events.
In 2009 the K9 personnel attended specialized training courses as part of skills and abilities development. The courses varied between advanced, medium and workshops. They included drugs detection, total quality management, dealing with hazardous materials, rescue techniques, vet medicine and health care.
24 training courses were held in the country and seven courses abroad in France, Hungary, Austria, Singapore and South Africa.
2009 was the year of excellence. The first specialized training course of its kind was at GCC level was organized. Officers and personnel from the GCC attended the course. The UAE Search and Rescue Team received international accreditation. The Department participated in Idex Abu Dhabi 2009. An agreement was c signed with the German Police Force in dog training areas. The Department participated in the international exhibition of dogs in Morocco.
