The Chronic Disease Awareness Initiative, recently launched by the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police, in coordination with the Health Authority- Abu Dhabi (HAAD), as a part of the ‘Weqaya’ (precaution) program initiative, continued its awareness activities to educate individuals about obesity, its risks, causes and ways of prevention.
Lt. Colonel Doctor Najla Asaad Taher, Head of Early Detection of Chronic and Cancer Diseases Initiative at ADP, stressed the importance of the novel ‘Weqaya’ program, which is designed according to the latest and most accurate standards applied globally. She said that the ‘Weqaya’ medical examination is the first step towards giving individuals a better understanding of their health status and to assist them in choosing the necessary resources to follow-up on their status.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Fathi Ma’rouf, Internal Medicine Specialist, declared that the Weight Care Clinic has already launched a set of activities in support of the ‘Weqaya’ program’s goals. These activities aim to spread health education and include acquainting individuals with obesity, its risks, causes, health complications and ways of prevention; as well as with the unhealthy eating habits to avoid, and providing them with medical advice to treat and avoid obesity.
The clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including a device that specializes in melting subcutaneous fat. The device is certified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Administration and dissolves fat under the skin that has been absorbed by the lymphatic vessels. “This device actually slims the body by targeting areas where fat tends to accumulate, such as the abdomen in men and the buttocks for women,” he added.
For his part, Major Doctor Saeed Al Mazroui, pointed that the ‘Weqaya’ program is a part of the Early Detection of Chronic Diseases and Cancer Initiative at ADP; which was launched as per the directives of the police leadership. “This initiative aims to enhance awareness about chronic diseases prevention, such as obesity, blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidemia; the program’s medical tests determine the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases and help to improve the health status of individuals,” he added.
