UAE to host first GCC anti-human trafficking forum
Under the patronage of Lt. Gen. HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Major General Harib Khalifa Al Kheli, assistant undersecretary for the resources and support services will inaugurate on Tuesday the first GCC forum on combating human trafficking.
Speaking ahead of the UAE hosting of the first GCC Forum on Combating Human Trafficking Crimes under the theme ''Together for Combating Human Trafficking Crimes,, Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairh, Director of Human Rights Department and Chairman of Committee to Combating Human Trafficking, Ministry of Interior, said the meeting would seek to enhance cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the GCC and their regional and international counterparts to fight these crimes through an integrated network of joint agreements and measures, and sharing of experiences and information.
He added that regional and international circles would participate in the gathering and this would provide an opportunity for police officers to gain and share knowledge and as well as build and develop their capacities.
Colonel Khamis Al Kaabi, chairman of the organizing committee, said the meeting would highlight efforts of local, regional and international law enforcement agencies in combating these crimes through different proactive preventive methods and techniques.
An elite line-up of speakers and experts from police forces, ministries of interior and justice, the UAE National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT), Emirates Institute for Naturalization and Residency, and Shelters will present working papers over the two-day event.
Internationally, representatives from the UN, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Interpol, Europol, EU,US and UK will also give insights into the issue.
