UAE proposal approved by Directors of Traffic in GCC countries
Directors of Traffic in GCC countries continue their meeting this morning and held two working sessions in which they approved the proposal presented by UAE of linking the UAE violations system with the GCC one.
The meeting also discussed the proposal made by Sultanate of Oman to ratify registers of traffic violations every three years among the GCC countries.
It also discussed the Oman’s call to conduct a study on setting up a unified manual for traffic violations.
The final working session is held today to announce the decisions and recommendations which will be submitted to the Interior Ministers in GCC countries in their next meeting.
In statements on the sidelines of the meeting, heads of delegations stressed the importance of unifying the traffic systems and procedures in GCC countries to facilitate the movement of citizens between the GCC countries.
Major General Abdul Rahman Al Ajlan, Director of Traffic in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said that traffic accidents is a global phenomenon and not in the Gulf of Arab region only. He attributed the increase in number of vehicles to the urban boom and economic expansion witnessed by the GCC countries.
He pointed out that the GCC countries are seeking to reduce traffic accidents through exchange of information and arrest of violators.
Colonel Eng. Mohammed Al Rawwas, director general of Traffic in Sultanate of Oman said, the tireless efforts to conduct awareness programs and enforce modern traffic systems and implement penalties on the violators led to a decreases in the number of accidents in the Sultanate.
Brigadier Salih Ahmed Al Najim, Head of the Kuwaiti delegation said that rate of deaths in Kuwait has declined from 460 deaths in 2006 to 274 in 2010.
“This was due to deployment of patrol vehicles and to the strict enforcement of traffic laws against violators”, affirmed Al Najim.
