Participants in the Ramadan Legal Council in Al Fujairah, organized on Wednesday, by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, in the Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, called on environmental agencies to expand the circle of spreading awareness and environmental education among citizens and residents alike, emphasizing the need to develop awareness in the importance of an pollutants-free environment, and combating all forms of environmental risks.
The Ministry of Interior had organized a number of Ramadan Councils in the emirates, discussing a number of topics, with the participation of the public, specialists and officials.
The Council was attended by a number of Federal National Council’s members; Dr. Maryam Al Shenasi, Assistant Undersecretary Executive Director for technical affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water; Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem Al Ka'abi, General Commander of Fujairah Police, along with a number of jurists and scientists. It tackled environmental and energy issues from a legal aspect by reviewing environmental laws issued in the state, and apply the environmental legislation to achieve the desired objectives such as the sustainable development, and environment protection. The religious aspect tackled the general rules in Islam, with respect to environment protection, while the social aspect focused on spreading the environmental culture among individuals.
Brigadier Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem Al Ka'abi, General Commander of Fujairah Police, said that environment protection issue, its security and its safety have become an integral part of the Country’s attention to its regional security; noting that the police responsibilities are no longer limited to protect individuals against traditional crimes; it goes beyond it, to protect communities from disasters, crisis and environmental threats.
He highlighted the importance of spreading awareness and environmental education in order to prevent environmental hazards; noting that finding and maintaining a clean environment is not confined to legislation and guidance; it goes beyond it to invite the various segments of society to follow measures, correct and scientific appropriate actions, to preserve the environment.
For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al-Ghoul, Director of the Law Respect Culture Bureau at the Ministry of Interior, said that humanity faces environmental problems, including environmental disasters such as global warming, air and water pollution, depletion of freshwater sources, drought and the proliferation of a number of diseases that the cause is unknown, in addition to cancerous diseases and lack of energy sources in some regions in the world.
He also explained the role of the Law Respect Culture Bureau in spreading environmental awareness and educating people on the risks of polluting it.
Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nour Al-Din Al-zamel and Sheikh Hamad Salem Al-Kanadi, from the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, pointed out the attention given by Islam to environment, noting that there are many verses in the Quran and Sunnah that include evidence and references to environment protection. They added that Islamic legislations call directly to refrain from sabotaging and corrupting the earth.
Dr. Maryam Al Shenasi, Assistant Undersecretary Executive Director for technical affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water, highlighted the State’s efforts in the field of environment protection and the progress it achieved in the past decades; adding that this progress embodies the leadership’s attention.
