Shooting Sport is my life line: Shamma Al Miheiri
Due to her enthusiasm and will, 1st Lt. Shamma Al Miheiri, Head of Women Police Training and Qualifying Center have become the first Arab woman who won the Gold Medal in shooting sport. She has achieved record results in shooting competitions at Local, Arab and World class levels. In 1997 she won the first gold medal in the West Asian Games.
Shamma has expressed her gratitude to HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for his support to ADP Women Shooting Team.
According to her, she has been supported by her parents to continue her shooting sport activity. There are other brilliant colleagues in ADP Team. To her, shooting is a marvelous sport and it teaches patience and discipline. She could not express her happiness when she won the first gold medal in 1997,as she represented her country.
Nowadays, UAE women are present in different sports, but with reservation. They need some time to act freely in sports areas. Sport is a message of peace between different nations of the world. Although there are many sports clubs in UAE but women participation is still limited to some extent. Women sport needs support and care to become more effective.
Her early beginnings dated back to 1995 under a Russian Trainer who encouraged her to continue. At that time approval of the parents or husband was a must. Her father "May his soul rest in peace" was the first to support and encourage her. She has continued her studies which were interrupted due to her marriage. She is managing well her duties at home as well as at her work.
