Saif bin Zayed affirms the importance of setting
 up institutional framework to rectify the imbalance 

 

HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Federal Council for Population Composition, chaired first meeting of the Council, yesterday. HH affirmed the government keenness to set up an institutional framework to rectify the imbalance. HE Sultan Al Manssouri, Minister of Economy, HE Maryam Al Roomy, Minister of Social Affairs, He (DR.) Anwar Qarqash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Advisor Rashid La Khreibani Al Nuaimi, member and Secretary General of the Council, were present in the meeting.

HH welcomed the Council Members and expressed his thanks and gratitude to HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, his brother HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and their brothers Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, for their keenness to rectify population composition imbalance. HH also thanked HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for his directives to rectify the population composition imbalance.

Then HH said “The set up of the Council reflects the government keenness to solve the problem of population composition. The task of the Council is to study and evaluate the status of population composition in the country, to propose population strategy, to formulate and approve appropriate policies and population systems to enhance citizens role, to maintain local culture and values and their bases, in addition to achieving the desired population balance”.

HH affirmed the necessity of going ahead with enabling process and handling all general national files which disturb the community and enhance its security and stability, by promoting the skills of national elements to contribute effectively to the sustainable development process which all parts of the country witness.

Then the Council reviewed a proposed provisional plan for the Council working map through a detailed presentation made by the Advisor Rashid La Khreibani Al Nuaimi. The map consists of four phases, on top of which a study and proposal for the objectives of the sector indicators and features of institutional governance.

Al Nuaimi said “Phase one which will be implemented in the beginning of August will explain the general goals of the population composition which is identification of aims on the long run, studying the sector performance indicators, to what extent are linked to each other, designing expectations model for population composition data, proposing targets for indicators and designing likely working scenarios for each indicator”.

HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai issued on March, 17 a decree to the cabinet proposing formation of a Federal Council for Population Composition, under the Cabinet with nominal entity, full authority to act, financial and administrative independence.
