National selected="true" for UNISRO
Major Mohammad Abdul Jaleel Al Anssari has been selected="true"="true" by the United Nations International Search and Rescue Organization (UNISRO) to take the position of the Regional Chairman of the UNISRO for Europe, Africa and Middle East Sector. He is the first Arab national ever to take this position. He is one of the qualified UAE nationals who have international presence in search and rescue areas. He evaluates the support of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minster and Minster of Interior for reaching this distinguished achievement.
Major Al Anssari has gone through different stages in the field of search and rescue. First he worked as the Deputy Regional Chairman for Europe, Africa and Middle East Sector, then a member of UN Crisis Evaluation and Coordination Team and Liaison Officer between UAE MoI and UNISRO. This is due his hard work over those years, the good reputation of his country and meeting the requirements of the post.
As part of UAE efforts to help others in times of need, HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior has directed the formation of search and rescue team to assist nations which were hit by disasters and crises. He team participated effectively during past years in search and rescue efforts in Pakistan 2005, Indonesia 2006 – 2007, Afghanistan 2008 and Indonesia 2009.
HH has continued his communication with the UNISRO for further coordination and cooperation, to know their work mechanisms and to run first field evaluation for UAE Team. HH met with the Secretary of the Organization Mr. Argon Catch and his accompanying delegation at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs to reflect HH interest in the issue.
Al Anssari has confirmed that communication with the Organization has opened the door for UAE Team to gain experience and technical abilities in rescue and search areas. HH has tasked him with the duties of the Liaison officer and to draft legal and official bases for the relationship between MoI and ADP GHQ on one hand and between the UNISRO on the other hand.
This has allowed the team to participate in conferences, workshops and specialized courses of the UNISRO, in addition to joint exercises the thing that has added a lot to our experiences.
UAE, represented by ADP GHQ was the first country in the Region which showed interest in joining professional work in search and rescue areas under UN umbrella. This has convinced the Organization that UAE would take the lead in international search and rescue field. Due to this the Secretary of the Organization expressed his desire to appoint Major Al Anssari as the Deputy Regional Chairman for Europe, Africa and Middle East Sector after the annual meeting at the end of 2008 in Dubai.
In respects of achievements during Al Anssari tenure as Deputy Chairman, implementation of several initiatives directed by HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Interior, including translation of Disasters Evaluators and Coordinators Manual to Arabic Language, which was the first of its kind in the Organization.
