MoI forum recommends review of legislations and issuance of child law

 

The First Form for the Supporting Organizations of Child and Woman Protection organized by the Human Rights Department at the Secretariat General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Interior recommended the importance of reviewing the current legislations related to woman and child. New legislation should enable women to balance between their family role and development role. It also would help in facing passive violence against women and a law to protect children should be issued.

The Forum started its work at Abu Dhabi Intercontinental Hotel under the patronage of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, on Wednesday. The Forum was opened by Major General (S) Khalifa Harib Al Kheili, MoI Acting Undersecretary, in collaboration with the Center of Research and Security Studies at ADP GHQ. 150 representatives of ministries, government departments and civil society organizations and institutions participated in the event. Specialists, experts and researchers in woman and child areas also participated in the Forum.

The Forum appreciated the decision taken by HH Sheikha Fatma bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the General Women's Union and the Family Development Foundation, regarding the formation of High Committee to study the preparation of a National Strategy for Motherhood and Childhood.

The participant extended their gratitude to HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior for his unlimited support for woman and child care and protection.

The opening ceremony of the Forum was attended by Major General Khamis Saif bin Suwaif, MoI Director General of Forensic Security, Brigadier Ahmed Mohammad Nakheerah, Director of human Rights at the Secretariat General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Interior and Chairman of Organizing Committee, Brigadier (Dr.) Abdullah Ali bin Sahooh, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs at Sharjah, Directors of Departments and MoI Senior Officers. The ceremony was also attended by Dr. Aml Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Member of the Federal National Council, Advisor (Dr.) Mohammad Mahmood Al Kamali, Director general of Training and Judicial Studies Institute, Mohammad Salim Al Dhahri, Director of Abu Dhabi Educational Zone and a number of writers and media men.

Major General Al Kheili opened the accompanying exhibition held on the side lines of the Forum. 15 government, organizations and institutions showcased all publications issued by participating parties in respect of woman and child rights culture.

In his speech to the Forum Al Kheili said, "we look forward to achieving the desired aims from this Forum which involve a group of experts and specialists. We would like to unify efforts and cooperation aspects between government institutions and civil society organizations for real partnership to protect and support woman and child rights".

At the end of his speech he thanked HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed (God bless him), the President of the UAE, the Vise President and their brothers Rulers of the Emirates for their permanent support for the families and the community.
