MoI: Enhancing family and community protection efforts against drugs

 

Ministry of Interior (MoI) has affirmed its keenness to boost all efforts aiming at protecting the family and community against drugs and their poisons, and activities and programmes that support family and community protection.

Major General Khamis Saif bin Suweif, Director General of Criminal Security at MoI said in his speech on the occasion of World Anti-Narcotic Day celebrations "This celebration is an extension of the plans and programmes being implemented by MoI Anti-drugs Departments. The slogan of this year celebrations is My Family is My Happiness – No for Drugs. It has several significances, represented in collective efforts of all community institutions to enhance family and media awareness".

"MoI strategy is based on two key fulcrums of preventing drugs from being brought inside the country and reducing demand for them, by intensifying awareness campaigns in collaboration with all relevant local bodies, and intensifying search and inspection procedures at border checkpoints. Intensifying exchange of information with relevant authorities in other countries, along with continuing specialized training in this area, using advanced technologies in drugs combat and signing agreements and MOUs with different world countries concerned", added bin Suweif.

"Parents should shoulder the main responsibility of making sure that their children are kept away from drugs. Religious values and teachings play a vital role in self-monitoring. Children should not be left for leisure time to prey on their minds. Parents should monitor their children's behavior to detect any changes which might indicate drug problems, especially when they travel abroad during summer vacation", added bin Suweif.

The recent period has witnessed many successes by Anti-drug bodies in the country. Many attempts to smuggle drugs inside the country were foiled, and international gangs were arrested. Cooperation with other countries led to seizure of large quantities of drugs intended for other countries. He lauded the cooperation and coordination between all anti-drug Departments in MoI, Police HQs and the Armed Forces HQ.

 

Institutional and social Solidarity

 

Major General Mohammad bin Al Awadhi Al Minhali, Director general of Human Resources and Acting Director general of Policing Operations at Abu Dhabi Police has affirmed in his speech on the occasion, ADP procedures within MoI strategy and plans to combat drugs, and to rehabilitate drugs addicts have contributed a lot to reduction of the spread of drugs among the UAE society.

MoI adopts an effective strategy based on international cooperation and exchange of visits between drug combat officials o learn about the latest developments in detecting gangs. Anti-drug authorities have achieved great successes due to continuous training of human cadres.

In addition to preventing drugs from being brought in, and reducing demand, we do not forget the issue of treatment. We support rehabilitation centers which assist those who want to be cured of addiction.

The cooperation of all society institutions in facing drugs reflects the community solidarity, to maintain community and youths safety. ADP is keen to continue supporting and implementing awareness activities and programmes addressed to all community segments.
