The shocking revelation of child pornography circulation via P2P networks prompt the ministry to adopt a zero tolerance against those involved," Major General Nasser Lekhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Deputy Prime Minister & Interior Minister's Office said yesterday.
In the opening speech of a joint drill to combat child pornography held here yesterday, Al Nuaimi stressed that possession of child pornography files is considered a serious offence since it poses negative psychological and social effects.
"This drill comes as part of our efforts to spread awareness on the perils of modern technology. We are determined to pursue initiatives emanating from the vision of the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan for excellence in child protection against any form of exploitation," he added.
The objectives of the drill will not only be confined to monitoring the distributor of children’s pornographic files, but will convey knowledge, exchange of expertise in evaluating the risks through observing the attitude patterns of the culprits, which help in determining the priorities of the investigation and verification,” he added.
The drill will contribute to upgrade the awareness of judicial authorities and will draw the attention of world and domestic media to the efforts of the ministry in the fields of security in general and child protection in particular.
The training sessions are aimed at teaching officers how to prevent the distribution of children’s information through peer-to-peer networks, and also train them to follow the behavior of criminals engaged in child trafficking and pornography.”
Cooperation with the Canadian Police Centre for the Missing and Exploited Children, the strategic partner in the Virtual Global Taskforce (VGT), for holding this joint drill will promote chances of conveying knowledge and exchanging expertise, a matter which will strengthen child protection efforts, he further said.
For his part, Lt Colonel Faisal Al Shammari, head of the MoI Child Protection Center said the drill demonstrates the strategy of the Ministry of Interior to achieve more achievements. According to the world report on IT (2010-2011), he said, the UAE holds 24th place in IT preparedness worldwide and tops the list at Arab countries level.
Major general Nasser Lekhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary - General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minster and Ministry of Interior and also head of the Higher Child Protection Committee at the ministry of interior lauded the Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etislalt) for its qualitative community contributions and ceaseless support in the advanced technical fields. He also praised its participating in the drill.
Addressing the conference, the Canadian Police Technical Liaison Officer praised UAE efforts and invaluable contributions in the field of global child protection. He spoke briefly about the nature of pear to pear (P2P) networks, presenting samples of child pornography files circulated through the p2p networks.
He also reviewed the measures applicable according the best advanced criteria to confront such crimes which are prohibited by religions and international laws
