Man arrested for cheating performers

Abu Dhabi Police have arrested a man who was conning singers into believing he was a major music producer.  The man, DW (37), had a fake cheque for 3.5 million US dollars on him which he was going to give to a well-known Arab singer for concerts and recordings. But his management company didn’t exist and he was in the country illegally. He has also been charged with defrauding people by promising visit visas to Europe for cash.  A number of local artists had been targeted and took information to the police after his story didn’t add up.

He was arrested at a pest control office in Abu Dhabi where he was designing a website for his fictional company. Colonel Hammad Ahmed Al Hammdi, head of Abu Dhabi Police CID urged people to be wary of scams like this “if it seems to good to be true then it probably is…always check people’s background before handing over any money to people promising you huge returns”.
