President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered that two police officers — a first lieutenant and first sergeant — who were injured in an operation to arrest drug dealers, be sent abroad for treatment until their condition stabilizes. He ordered that a private jet to be provided for this purpose. .
This was announced during the second visit by Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, this afternoon, "Tuesday" to inquire about the condition of the two CID personnel.
Sheikh Saif conveyed to them the greetings of His Highness the President who, he said, was closely following the case.
Sheikh Saif affirmed that any criminal act endangering the life of any of the law enforcement officers will not undermine their determination and courage to deter anyone trying to cause damage to the security and stability of the society.
He stressed the determination of the Ministry of Interior to continue effort to root out drugs and prosecute traffickers, whatsoever challenges and risks they are facing. He highlighted the implications of this evil which entails serious risks to the health of the society and the stability of its foundations.
He also expressed his wishes of prompt recovery for the two victims and return safely to their families, and be able to continue performing their duty so that they set an example of responsibility, honesty and dedication in the service of the homeland and protection of the community from the evils of the abusers, believing what they did will be appreciated and respected by all.
He was accompanied during the visit by a number of senior police officers of Abu Dhabi Police namely, Major General Obeid Al Hiri Salem Kutbi, Deputy Commander General of Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services , Major General Mohammad Bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali Director General of Police Operations, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations, and Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director - General of the Headquarters Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police
Abu Dhabi Police said investigations are still ongoing to find out more about the details of the incident, noting that it had succeeded in arresting the perpetrators, and confiscated drugs.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect, who opened fire at the two policemen, has done so for fear of falling into the hands of the police, with the hope to get the money and conceal his crime in any way.
Investigations also revealed that the suspect is unemployed and has previously been dismissed from his job as a result of repeated aggressive behavior. He is not having appropriate education.
Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, yesterday, visited the injured officers at the hospital and inquired about their condition.
Sheikh Saif followed up the search efforts that led to the arrest of the suspects and confiscation of drugs.
In a bid to avoid rumors and dispel feeling of fear and anxiety, community police patrol vehicles had been moving in the scene to reassure the public and inform them of the fact.
