According to Col. Ali Obeid Al Tunaiji, director of Civil Defence in Al Fujairah, the Campaign aims to disseminate the concept of safety and protection among all the members of the family against the risks of fire accidents. Field visits were paid by the civil defence teams to the houses to propagate the goals of the campaign.
28 officers and a group of volunteers participated in the Takatuf program in cooperation with the Al Fujairah Educational Zone, he added.
The Emirate of Al Fujairah was divided into seven sectors, the first includes the city of Al Fujairah, the second, includes the areas of Merbih, Qadfaa, Al Qariyah, Al Safad, and Al Thaib, the third one includes, includes the areas of Al Bathna, Al Bulaidah, Al Heel, Al Farfar and Awhala, while the fourth sector comprises the areas of Masafi, Al Khelaibyah, Marbat, Souq Al Jumaa, Thoban, Seji, and the fifth includes the areas of Al Towayeen, Habab, Al Hinyah, Wadi Al Abadela, Al Hula, Al Ghoub, the sixth one includes Diba, and the seventh sector includes the areas of Al Badyah, Sharm, Al Aqqah and Dhadna.
He added that the campaign was divided into three stages: the first one includes the all the houses, the second one include the buildings and apartments, and the third one included the laborers compounds.
“Out of 428 fire accidents across the Emirate in 2010, 42 accidents were controlled, clarified Al Tunaiji, who added that this represents nine per cent. He noted that the causes of fires are attributed to negligence and poor knowledge of protection methods, absence of protection equipment in the old houses, improper networks, electric appliances, and gas pipes and systems.
He emphasized that the Campaign had a very big impact on the society members who realized the importance of the role of civil defence. He wished that the community maintains communication with the civil defence personnel to ensure their safety.
He urged them to seek assistance of the competent bodies when carrying out maintenance works and installing electric wires. He also asked them to monitor risky locations, avoid keeping electricity working for longer periods, and to make sure that the cylinder valve is tightly closed.
