Emirates Search and Rescue Team is the only classified and accredited team in the country and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and it received unlimited attention from the higher leadership, said director general of central operations at Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi.

The team is equipped with the latest rescue and search tools, so it can carry out all humanitarian tasks, added Al Raisi while inaugurating The United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination Program in Arabic language on Sunday in Abu Dhabi Fremont Hotel, from 4-16 December with the participation of a big number of countries and UN concerned organizations.

Inauguration was attended by Brigadier Ismaeel Al Sirakal, deputy director of central operations, a number of departments’ directors, sections’ chiefs and branches’ managers. Also attended was the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Regional Director.

Being the first police organization in the region to get involved professionally in the field of search and rescue under the umbrella of the United Nations, has contributed to convincing the UN that the UAE will finish the job greatly, indicated Al Raisi.
 
This course is held for the first time in the UAE since it was first organized 15 years ago, said Lt Colonel Mohammed Abduljaleel Al Ansari; head of the Emirates Search and Rescue Team, Field Liaison Officer with UN stressed UAE's concern for strengthening its humanitarian role across the world to extend hands of assistance to victims of disasters.

Regional director of OCHA praised the huge support offered by Abu Dhabi Police for hosting this edition, describing the UAE support for the humanitarian operations across the world as “invaluable”.
