Under the title “childhood innocence and present challenges”, the Social Support Centers Department of Abu Dhabi Police organized a symposium at the Police Officers Club, marking the world children day which is celebrated on November 20 every year.
The symposium aims at shedding light on the risks surrounding children and the necessity of ensuring their protection, especially during globalization era and rapid spread of communication technologies, pointed out Najm Abdullah Al Hosani, director of social support centers department who was, among other police officers, attending the event.
Parents must warn children against misuse of technology such as the internet, said Al Hosani. Efforts should be made in three themes including monitoring the implementation of laws by the concerned authorities, establishing specialized centers to deal with children issues and provide professional solutions for them, and ensuring UAE joins international organizations concerned with the children issues, he further indicated.
The ministry of interior has issued many laws and legislations with regard to children, such as issuing a law banning the use of children in camel races, a law on child and human trafficking and a law on unidentified children, he noted.
Four papers have been presented at the symposium, including “psychological impacts on victims of extortion and harassment, “child luring through the internet”, “role of social support centers in solving extortion and harassment cases involving children” and “modern technologies… challenges and solutions.”
The program of the symposium began with the national anthem, then a recitation from the holy Quran, followed by a documentary about the social support centers department. The symposium was concluded with honoring the participants and presenting of mementos to the audience.
