Abu Dhabi Police celebrates world’s anti - smoking day
On the eve of the world’s anti smoking day, the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police held on Tuesday its annul ceremony themed “ Abu Dhabi says: No to smoking”.
The event was attended by Brigadier Maktoum Al Shareefi, director of the Capital Police Directorate and a number of directors of departments and police officers and big crowds Abu Dhabi Police doctors, staff members and their families.
UAE is sharing the world in its anti smoking campaign, said Brigadier Salim Saleh Al Junaibi, director of the Department in a speech he delivered on this occasion.
The Municipality departments contributed to the success of this campaign by banning smoking in offices and public places, noted Al Junaibi. This has led to good results compared to previous years, he added.
Dr. Abdulqudoos Al Qaddora, cardiologists at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) presented a lecture titled “Tobacco’s harmful effects in UAE 2011”. He shed light on the direct tobacco’s effects on smokers and passive smokers. He also warned against the fatal diseases caused by smoking.
“Do you know everything about smoking” is the title of the lecture delivered by Dr. Ahmed Fatehi, internal medicine specialist at Abu Dhabi Police Medical Services. He cast light on the history of tobacco and the stages it went through.
At the end of the event, Brigadier Al Junaibi presented certificates of appreciation to the lecturers as well as the employees who managed to quit smoking.
