Abu Dhabi Police published a Tourism Guide for tourists. The publication is an awareness Brochure, in 12 different languages, explaining the guidelines of tourism ethics and morals in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The Brochure contributes to raise the level of culture and knowledge of the country’s traditions and customs in order to develop the concepts of tourism and spread awareness and culture of tourism.
The Tourism Police Department at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters prepared the Tourism Guide brochure in 12 languages: Arabic, English, Russian, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Korean, Spanish, Indian and Urdu.
Brigadier Omair Al Muhairi, Deputy Director of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, stated: “As part of the development efforts exerted by Abu Dhabi Police to advance Tourism Police, and improve security services provided to tourists, to ensure their comfort and allow them to enjoy their time, as well as maintaining social security, the brochure was prepared to acquaint tourists with the guidelines of public morals, uncivilized and illegal acts and behaviors expected to be seen in touristic areas.”
“To add more security and peace of mind and guarantee a safe tourism, the Department published the Tourism Guide Brochure that was written in a simple language, in order to extend bridges of cooperation with tourists and create a sense of security to reduce the accidents that tourists may face, by setting up preventive solutions and communication channels,” he added.
Brigadier Al Muhairi urged tourists not to hesitate to seek the Tourism Police’s assistance in case of emergency, stressing its readiness to provide immediate assistance promptly, to reflect a bright image of the country. Moreover, Brigadier Al Muhairi reiterated the Tourism Police personnel’s readiness to interact with tourists in their own languages and provide them with guidance and advice at border points and in touristic areas. He pointed out that Tourism Police dedicates its efforts to create a proper touristic environment by guaranteeing safety and security for all, along with services that help tourists to view the country’s touristic landmarks.
For his part, Lt. Colonel Muzeed Fahd Al Uteibi, Head of Tourism Police Department at the Criminal Investigation Department of Abu Dhabi Police, said that the brochure includes 14 guidelines for tourists, such as avoiding possession or use of illegal drugs or psychotropic substances, avoiding indecent behavior, contrary to public taste in public places (kissing, cross-dressing, etc..) as well as the need to wear decent clothing.
“The rules also include prohibiting alcohol consumption outside licensed places, driving under the influence of alcohol. They also stress the need to carry proof of identity at all times, and show it to security officers upon request, to provide security for tourists” he added.
Al Uteibi continued: “The brochure explains that most businesses and malls accept major credit cards, therefore, it is advisable not to carry around big amounts of cash, as ATMs are available everywhere in Abu Dhabi. Moreover, individuals should always make sure to lock their vehicles and hide valuables from sight.”

Colonel Al Uteibi pointed out that according to the rules, it is strictly prohibited to enter or photograph restricted areas; prostitution, begging and vagrancy are punishable by law, and are contrary to the local values and traditions.
