ADP solves the riddle of the death of stillborn foetus
Abu Dhabi Police was able to solve the riddle of a four-month old stillborn female foetus which her mother aborted her in one of the Capital hotels after she had become pregnant out of the confines of marriage. The baby was found wrapped in a billow case near a garbage bin in Mussafah Area, last September. The incident led to the arrest of 5 persons (4 women and 1 man).
The Asian mother, who came to the UAE on a tourist visa since last May, admitted that she aborted her four month baby after having sex with several men; one of them was an electrician of Arab nationality who rented her an apartment in a hotel in Abu Dhabi. He was arrested for misleading justice, giving false statements, adultery and hiding a foetus body.
The case was revealed by Colonel Hammad Ahmed Al Hamadi, Director of ADP Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where he said "The case was discovered when an Arab national identified as (B.A.M., 25) came the police to report the four-month old foetus near garbage bin in Mussafah. The investigation team which surrounded the site of the incident, suspected the behavior of the informant who was scared when the security men interrogated him.
Major Jumaa Al Kaabi, Head of Homicide Section at ADP CID said "Investigators suspected the behavior of the informant where his statement did not comply with the facts of the case. When faced with concrete evidences he changed his statement and made a full confession of the crime".
"He did not witness the abortion of the woman whom he came to know four month ago. She was assisted by other three women whom he claimed did not know but they were her friends. He threw the foetus, which was wrapped in a billow case, near a garbage bin in Mussafah. He directed the policemen to the site during the report", added Al Kaabi.
"According to the main suspect, identified as (S.A.D., 27) she aborted her self and the four-month old female foetus dropped on the bathroom floor. She admitted that she had taken ten medical tablets, brought to her by her boyfriend, in order to abort the baby. She came to know him two and a half months ago. She continued taking the tablets intermittently for 13 hours till abortion happened", added Al Kaabi.
"When the other three suspects, all of them were Asians and came to the UAE on tourist visas and were found with the main suspect in the hotel, were confronted with their fears, they denied helping her in abortion attempts. Three of them identified as (M.Aa. 35, R.G.,38 and A.B.,38), ran from their sponsors and worked as prostitutes. They were all arrested and referred along with the accused man to judicial authorities.
In this context, Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of Law Respect Culture Office at the Secretariat General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said "Criminal abortion is a punishable crime. It means termination of pregnancy or getting rid of the baby without a medical reason. "Emirati legislator punishes any pregnant woman who abort her self intentionally, with not more than one years jail term or a fine of not less than DH10,000, or possibly both punishments.
