Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Transport, have recently signed a cooperation agreement to provide security protection for the integrated public transport network in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The agreement was signed at the headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police by Major General Staff Obeid Al Hiri Kutbi, Deputy Commander-General of Abu Dhabi Police and Abdullah Rashid Al Otaiba, Chairman of the Department of Transport.

Attended the signing ceremony were Major General Mohammad Bin Al Awadhi, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations, and Lt. Col. Tariq al-Ghoul, Director of the Police Transport, and a number of senior officers in the Abu Dhabi Police, and senior officials of the Department of Transport.

Under the agreement, Abu Dhabi police shall provide specialized security and police services through the newly created Department of Police transport, said Major General Al Kutbi.

 The agreement has stipulated a number of commitments between the two parties in order to keep the transport network safe and secure, manage and achieve less use of transport resources in the Abu Dhabi Police, in addition to responding to the needs of travelers, providing high quality services, and building the police transport as a specialized unit within the scope of its work, he added.

The agreement included a strategy to recruit and deploy the personnel of the Police Department of Transport to achieve the highest level of cooperation and coordination between the two parties, work to strengthen the community's confidence in using public transport services and exchange information; in order to protect users and staff of the integrated public transport network in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The two parties also agreed to determine the scope of work priorities, subdividing it into seven strategic areas in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. They have also agreed to restructure and change the personnel of the Police Department of Transport according to the annual performance indicators, and the development plan of transport in Abu Dhabi Police (2012-2015).

The agreement also includes the application of environmental, health and safety standards and programs concerning the risks facing the users and staff members of the integrated public transport network.

The agreement shall be enforced in buses, trains, metro, the ferries stations and facilities, water taxis and the locations of surface, side and multi-storey parking and other present and future means of public transport.

For his part, Abdullah Rashid Al Otaibi, Chairman of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi said:  "This agreement represents a continuation of the firm cooperation between the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi and the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. “We seek together to provide the highest levels of comfort, security and safety in all means of transportation, in support for the comprehensive land transport plan in Abu Dhabi, and in line with Plan Abu Dhabi 2030”.

He lauded  the ongoing support efforts  of Abu Dhabi Police, which we appreciate very much, pointing out that having an advanced and modern transport system will  play an active role in supporting and developing the economy and keeping pace with urban and population growth witnessed by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

 All these factors encourage the use of means of mass transportation to reduce traffic congestion and mitigate pressure on the road network in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, by providing sustainable and attractive public mass transportation alternatives.
