60 absconding violators nabbed hiding in
 18 apartments in Abu Dhabi

 

An inspection campaign carried out by the Ministry of Interior has resulted in arresting 60 illegal residents of Bangladeshi nationality. They have been found in a six-story building containing 18 apartments occupied by hundreds of Asian bachelors. All arrested Bangladeshi have absconded from their sponsors.

Some of them tried to hide under blankets, inside kitchen cupboards, under beds, behind doors, under shelves, in balconies and corners, when the polce elements stormed the building, on Monday morning at 01:00 following a tip off.

The above was mentioned in a statement made by Major General Nasser bin l Awadhi Al Minhali, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs at MoI. The operation was carried out by elements from the Department of Violators and Foreigners Follow up Affairs at MoI.

‘The arrested individuals were found living in unhygienic conditions. Every single inch of the apartments were used for living and sleeping by them. Their accommodation was a source of rats and insects. They would be exposed to diseases which they might transfer to the people outside their apartments”, added al Minhali.

According to Al Minhali, these campaigns will continue day and night and at all times, in implementation of Foreigners Entry and Residence Law, its Regulation and its amendments. All those who harbor them will be arrested as well.

He has urged citizens and residents to report any infiltrator, violator or those who employ or harbor them on Sahim Service phone (80080). The Department of Violators and Foreigners Follow up will continue chasing these people, arresting them and referring them to the Prosecution to have them deported from the country for good.

The Office of Law Respect Culture at the Secretariat General of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior has appreciated the cooperation of authorities concerned in MoI as one team to arrest illegal residents.

Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Salah Al Ghoul, Director of Law Respect Culture Office said “The country laws including the foreigners’ entry and residence law are enacted to protect people from their selves and to achieve public safety for te community. Any violation of these laws will threaten all community members”.

Dr. Al Ghoul has criticized the environment in which the nabbed individuals were found in when they were busted by police elements as they put themselves in such situation. The country fights such environments of living and tries to provide best living and health conditions for legal residents, plus almost luxury services. The Office and since its establishment, through its awareness tours and visits ha explained laborers rights and the government’s efforts to promote standard of their living”.

“What worries the authorities concerned is that the modern integrated environment becomes a crime den because of these infiltrators and violators. They have no fixed income and due to their illegal status they cannot work. It is difficult to create social and monitoring controls because of unhealthy environments created by these illegal residents to hide themselves. Authorities concerned work as one team to nab violators whatever their attempts to hide from police eye. He hopes that all community members and institutions will cooperate with MoI call by reporting illegal residents”, added Al Ghoul.
