The Institute of Community Policing and Police Sciences completed first year, achieving great success in terms of the number of trainees which rose to 1340 who completed 94 training courses in different police areas in addition to many community-based courses and specialized skills to deal with partners.

Lt. Col. Mubarak bin Meheroum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute said the Institute supplies police departments in the country and neighboring countries, with police cadres who are trained in various areas of police work.

He added that the Institute is the first of its kind in Middle East, and receives all the support and appreciation from police leaders in the region being a vital body in unifying the concept of community policing, in line with the policies and needs of the Ministry of Interior and Abu Dhabi Police.

It is worth mentioning that the training system at the Institute is based on the organization of courses that are designed to promote security awareness, and enhance the principles and practices of social responsibility which focus on proactive actions and community skills for the police and security personnel and other segments of the society.

The number of courses organized by the Institute was 94 courses that have addressed a number of issues including basic community policing, problem-solving, the police skills in dealing with community, advanced community policing, social responsibility, as well as the development of behavioral skills for the community police personnel, and the role of community policing in the promotion of crime prevention, planning and implementation of awareness campaigns, among others.

A total of 22 specialized workshops have been conducted.

With a course titled “introduction to problems-solving” which was attended by 20 officers from the General Headquarters of Abu Dhabi Police, the Institute of Community Policing and Police Sciences has started its activities.

The workshop discussed several issues, including crime prevention, response to crime problems, partnerships in the fight against crime; in addition to the new global practices in this area.

The workshop provided examples in the of problem-solving process, such as reducing crime and disorder, the importance of science in solving problems; and the need to work in partnership as well as  getting the chance to exercise some necessary skills.

Lt. Col. Mubarak bin Meheroum Chairman of the Institute said the establishment of the Institute came to realize the aspirations of the future of police work, especially in the areas of community policing in the UAE, which is evolving rapidly, at thing which required keeping abreast with global developments in this area.

He explained that community policing in the developed world has become the finest and the best alternative for the conventional current policing system in many countries.

He stressed that the Institute is working in accordance with the modern rules of informatics which have been applied in many European and Asian countries and America in the field of community policing.

Colonel Mubarak bin Meheroum, Chairman of the Institute, is one of the professionals of community policing and holds a Masters degree in Executive Management from Zayed University, United Arab Emirates and BA in Human Resources Management from the United States of America.
