"Social Support": Units to investigate children cases activated

 

Brigadier Najm Al Sayar, Director of MoI Social Support Centers said "10,464 cases have been dealt with since the establishment of the Center in 2005. Of these, 2965 cases were dealt with last year. They included conjugal differences, domestic violence, and absence from home, harassment, threat and blackmailing".

"Juvenile cases include, child abuse, family ignorance, sexual molestation, children and women physical abuse, disabled="disabled" persons and elderly people abuse", added Al Sayar.

Al Hosani has revealed that, the Social Support Centers intend to implement some initiatives: Activation of units to investigate cases related to children, role of relevant partners in crime prevention and enhancing social values in the community. These changes are due to economic openness, existence of different cultures and nationalities in the country which some of them have negative effect on local conventions and traditions.

The Social Support Centers have won "Emirates Social" Prize during this year for their efforts in supporting community stability and security.

"The Emirates Social prize which the Centers have won recently it is the first of its type in social areas at local level. The setting up of social centers will be extended to other cities of the country in response to the wise vision of HH Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

"Winning the prize is an evaluation reflects the standard of Centers performance and their interest in community stability. Such step encourages the staff to work harder and perform their humanitarian duties to assist any one needs their help", added Al Hosani.

"The Centers offer special care to released inmates of Correctional and Punitive Establishments. These include, financial and moral assistance, helping them in finding jobs that allow them to gain new skills and self-confidence, as they feel ashamed of what they have done. In such cases if they do not find care they may return to crime", added Al Hosani.

"The Social Support Centers with their three branches in Abu Dhabi, al Ain and the Western region offer a number of preventive and curative programmes to contain problems and domestic tensions, to support crime victims, to rehabilitate them psychologically to prevent crime and protect the community", added al Hosani.

He has affirmed that community members should be involved in supporting positive behaviors among the community. Qualified volunteers shall be educated and trained to deal with social issues in coordination with the Social Support Centers. Thus social responsibility will be developed among community members. 

"Social Support Centers aim at supporting social work within police organization, settling secondary problems which do not need legal action amicably, the thing that enhance the opportunities of tolerance between community and families members. Also they discover crimes that take place within the family and do not reported to the police, which they need handling by psychiatrists and sociologists. 

He has also affirmed the importance of offering psychological support, following up crime victims and correctional and punitive establishment's inmates and their families, activation of social and educational institutions in the country to solve social problems and problems that prompt crimes.
