“Al Qanass” (hunter) to spot speed limit violators on Abu Dhabi roads
ADP Department of traffic and patrols has introduced new radar under the name “Al Qanass” (The Hunter”) to spot reckless drivers and those who exceed speed limit on external and internal roads of Abu Dhabi. They will be booked in presence and is the new radar is operational now.
Colonel (Engineer) Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of ADP Traffic and patrols Department has stated that undercover and ordinary patrol cars have been provided with “Al Qanass” to spot violators on internal and external roads within the continuous and strict campaign launched by Abu Dhabi Traffic. The aim is to provide a safe traffic environment, to curb over speeding and reckless driving.
It is considered one of the modern radars and it’s a laser-operated device. It is characterized by clear image of the offending car and the site of the offence. It covers all road directions. It is sensitive towards vehicles which exceed speed limits at long distances. It also produces videos in addition to the images. It can work in mobile or stationary positions.
Expansion of using advanced electronic devices is within traffic safety strategy of ADP. It aims at reducing traffic accidents and resulting deaths and injuries. It is a comprehensive plan for traffic control and awareness programmes.
Over speeding during the period from 1 January to 3 March 2010 resulted in 10 deaths and 24 severe injuries. Speeding offences during the same period were 358,694.
He urged drivers specially youth segment to adhere to speed limits. Exceeding speed limits not only endangers the life of the driver but other road users as well.
