Abu Dhabi Civil defense General Headquarters recently celebrated in Bremer Inn-Abu Dhabi the graduation of a specialized patch of Fire Prevention and Safety supervisors. The training course was organized in cooperation with UL, an international Organization for civil defense personnel.
The course included a number of field visits to construction sites in Marina Island, and a number of factories and laboratories which are specialized in performing tests and manufacturing fire prevention and safety equipment in line with international standards.
The ceremony was attended by Colonel Muhammad Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Acting Director General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi; Major Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director, Civil Protection and Safety at the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Department; and JC Sekar, Director of UL's Knowledge Service at UL.
Colonel Al Nuaimi said that the course focused on developing the knowledge, capabilities and skills of personnel, and provide them with genuine adopted basics, codes and conditions of prevention and safety. He noted that the care extended to human resources and developing it comes in line with the Ministry of Interior Strategy, and the Civil Defense General Headquarters announced in the 2011-2013 plan of the UAE.
He added that promoting fire prevention and safety, allows spreading awareness about it, and direct it through teaching, education and the habilitation of construction, consultancy sector, and landlords in line with the importance of implementing the best engineering practices, and not to use unauthorized replicated equipment in order to prevent accidents.
He explained that the Civil Defense General Department in Abu Dhabi, has taken a series of procedures to promote fire prevention and safety in built environments with the aim to achieve the highest levels of protection to lives, and public and private properties.
Major Al Sami Naqbi said that the department is setting a strategic plan that includes training, qualifying and accrediting contractors and councilors so that they will be equipped with the required knowledge of fire prevention and safety skills in their field of work. He said that training and qualifying them will be the main base for accrediting contractors willing to perform civil defense activities.
Director of UL's Knowledge Service at UL commended the efforts of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Department aiming to promote the safety of built environments through training educating, refining the skills of its staff. He also praised its efforts in elevating the level of efficiency among contributors in the field of construction. He expressed his happiness that a number of civil defense staff has now become qualified to provide special training programs in UL in fields of fire prevention and safety.
