The Criminal Investigations Department of Abu Dhabi Police has arrested a 56-year old Indian concierge, working in an Abu Dhabi private school, for reportedly assaulting a 7-year old girl following a complaint filed by the mother.
According to Abu Dhabi Police investigations, the accused confessed to having raped the second grade student; when she entered the concierge’s kitchen, unaccompanied. The case was referred to the concerned authorities to investigate its circumstances.
Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department at Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the Social Support Center’s evaluation reported that the 7-year old girl suffered an assault of more than 70%. It added that the suspect is an Asian individual working as a concierge in a private school. Colonel Borshid also noted that the Criminal Investigations Department coordinated with the Social Support Center, to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
He added that the perpetrator was arrested at work, on Sunday, April 14. He confessed that although he doesn’t know the victim’s name, he could still identify her. Furthermore, the accused confessed to having raped the girl when she came into the kitchen unaccompanied, looking for a toy to play with. Concluding, Colonel Borshid noted that investigations are still underway to determine the circumstances of the incident.
For his part, Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Chairman of Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of the Interior, expressed his deep regrets for such an incident. Moreover, he added that the procedures applied were consistent with the procedures’ manual for investigating child abuse cases, focusing on unifying police procedures and implementing the best relevant practices.
The Secretary General underscored the need for school administrations to intensify control to protect children against assault, and to prevent such tragic and strange incidents in the UAE society; known for respecting social values, and strongly opposing such unethical practices, especially against children. He has also praised the victim’s parents prompt response, by reporting the incident in time, which enabled the concerned authorities from arresting the perpetrator.
Major General Al Nuaimi reiterated the importance of close and continuous child supervision at all times, either by parents or school administrations. He called on families to communicate with their children, by following them up and educating them. Family is the first line of protection the various risks that children may face; and children’ maturity, interests and needs are quite different from adults.
