A Qatari Delegation from Qatar Petroleum and Mowasalat Qatar commended Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters’ experience as the first government body in the UAE to convert 10% of its vehicles to run on natural gas, under the Executive Council Resolution to convert 25% of government and private vehicles to run on natural gas during 2011-2012.

Brigadier General Juma Ahmed Al Qubaisi, Director of Transport and Workshops Department, had met with the delegation presided by Hamad Jarallah Al Marri; Head of Facility Development at Qatar Petroleum, and Nasser Al Khanji, Director of Planning and Business Development at Mowasalat Qatar, in the presence of Jassim Saleh, Natural Gas Engineering and Project Division manager at ADNOC Distribution.

During the meeting; Brigadier General Al Qubaisi presented a brief overview of the Abu Dhabi Police initiative undertaken by the Transport and Workshops Department to convert 522 cars to run on natural gas as an eco-friendly alternative fuel, in its efforts to reduce pollution and preserve the environment. He pointed out that work is underway to convert more vehicles to run on natural gas in the future.

He explained that using natural gas in vehicles is one of the most efficient fuel alternatives to petrol, given its significant fuel saving which varies between 30% and 50%; in addition to the myriad of technical and environmental advantages, which reduce pollution; as well as reducing the vehicles’ maintenance frequency which prolongs the virtual life of the vehicle.

During the Qatari delegation’s tour, Major Bakheet Ali Al Khawar, of the Transport and Workshops Department, explained the mechanism followed to convert these vehicles as well as the use of natural gas and its advantages.

He also shed light on the mechanisms established to address the obstacles that may arise upon running cars on natural gas, indicating that Abu Dhabi Police is among the bodies that support green initiatives. Memorial gifts were exchanged at the end of the visit.

It is worth noting, that Abu Dhabi Police recently acquired two certificates from ADNOC Distribution. One, for being the first government body to begin implementing the Executive Council Resolution to convert 25% of the total number of government bodies’ vehicles to run on natural gas, and the second for being the first government body to achieve the required ration for 2011 within the deadline.
