Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Police Central Operations, and Chairman of Victims Affairs Office Committee, inaugurated the first specialized program for Disaster Victim Identification (DVI), at the Rocco Forte Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The program is organized in collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), and comes in line with the Ministry of Interior’s general strategic plan to raise the level of readiness and preparation in dealing with major accidents.
The program comes in line with the training plan of the Victims Affairs Office, which aims to improve the capabilities of human resources in identifying the victims of disasters and mass casualties. A number of officers delegated from GCC countries and staff from the DVI Division are participating in the program, which will conclude its sessions next Thursday
.
In his opening speech, Major General Al Raisi stressed the Police Command’s commitment to cooperate and prepare for any major crisis and disasters with the GCC countries and the international community, in cooperation with the INTERPOL.
He added: “Organizing such specialized programs helps the United Arab Emirates to unify the procedures in accordance with the INTERPOL system”.
Al Raisi stated that the Ministry of Interior was keen on setting up the Victims Affairs Office at an early stage, pointing out that these specialized programs will contribute in rehabilitating and training the human resources to keep them fully prepared and ready, in case of any emergency.
He added: “The Emergency and Public Safety Department in Abu Dhabi Police along with Victims Affairs Office organized a number of training courses and field exercises for rescue teams, last year. Delegations from GCC countries participated in these important specialized courses”.
Simon Jedrowski, Head of INTERPOL’s Disaster Victim Identification Department praised the huge efforts exerted by the UAE in supporting the international cooperation with the organization in different fields, including victim identification. He pointed out that this course is one of the most important specialized courses, contributing efficiently in raising the level of readiness and preparation.
The Victim Identification program 1 is the first of its kind in the field of Disaster Victim Identification and Mass casualties (DVI), and took 3 months of preparation, in collaboration with the INTERPOL.
The program will include lectures by an elite of specialists with more than 20 years of experience, about the mechanisms and procedures of Victims Identification, in accordance with the procedures applied by the INTERPOL.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mohammed Ali Al Dallal Al Naqbi, Deputy Chairman of the Victims Affairs Office Committee; Major Raed Ali Al Muhairi, Director of the Victims Affairs Office, as well as several delegations from the GCC Countries and the INTERPOL.
