 “Women Police” hosts a scientific lecture on food safety

 

ADP GHQ has hosted recently a scientific lecture delivered by Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority about “Food safety”. The lecture was delivered at the Women Police Section. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Hafidh Ibrahim, from Meats Unit at the Department of Field Operations.

The lecturer spoke about the Authority procedures regarding animal produce establishments, including approval of abattoirs procedures, meats inspection, manufactured meats and fishes.

He also spoke about Halal Slaughter concepts, its mechanisms and conditions which the Authority notifies animal establishments to comply with. He explained fish inspection methods and detection of their freshness or rottenness and symptoms that make them not suitable for human consumption.

He reviewed the Five Commandments regarding foods safety, how to prepare safe food and how to keep food stuff, rather than the proper ways to wash hands (There are 33 approved ways in the world).

The lecturer also spoke about how to deal with frozen and fresh foods, and the right methods to melt frozen foods. He explained the conditions on which bacteria develop and how to stop their activity according to heat degrees. He warned against the dribble of water and blood from frozen foods from meat and chicken on other food stuff below them in the fridge such as vegetables. In such cases the poisonous bacteria will be transferred to these items of food.

At the end of the lecture the lecturer he showed a number of photos of cases he came across at abattoirs, restaurants, fish shops etc., during his inspection tours. The authority has a plan to become one of the best five in the world. Many of the visiting delegations to the Authority lauded the advanced standard achieved by Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority which matches European Countries similar agencies.
