The Ministry of Interior emphasized that promoting awareness on the risks of fireworks is a societal responsibility, due to the dangers they represent on their users, particularly children, people around them and on properties.
Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Salah Al Ghoul, Director of Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior stated that the use of fireworks is a social scourge, harmful to both health and society.
He said: “using fireworks begins as an entertainment, but may end in a tragedy causing permanent disability or distortion to the eyes and skin of their user, as well as to people around them. Fireworks also cause damages to properties due to the fires they might start; in addition to the noise pollution that affects the eardrum”.
He pointed out that the use of fireworks has become a societal scourge with negative impacts on society, noting that despite the health and social warnings issued regarding the risks posed by fireworks, some vendors supply and sell them randomly, particularly to children, with holidays and celebrations drawing near.
Al Ghoul stressed the need for families to supervise their children and instruct them not to buy fireworks, by educating them on the harmful effects of their use, as children do not usually comply with safety methods and ways to deal with dangerous materials. He concluded by saying that addressing this scourge has become a responsibility that rests with everyone.
