Capital Police Directorate has formed male and female police patrols to control beggars during Eid Al-Adha. In cooperation with the public and the Central Control Room of the Abu Dhabi Police, these patrols will focus on areas that typically witness a high incidence of beggary.

Brigadier Maktoum Ali Al Sharifi, Director of the Capital Police Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, said, “When begging is controlled, the number of beggars relatively decreases during the Eid holidays compared to the Holy Month of Ramadan. However, begging is an uncivilized issue that is a nuisance to citizens and residents alike.”

Brigadier Al Sharifi added that stopping this occurrence is a priority and responsibility of both civil and police patrols. As part of the “Your Safety” campaign, social and media awareness are encouraged under the slogan “Together to Fight Begging” carried out by the Security Media Department of the Secretariat General of the Office of H.H. Minister of Interior. He added, “This initiative aims to raise public awareness to collaborate with the police in persuading beggars to find honest means of living and avoid begging alms immorally.”

Brigadier Al Sharifi advised society members to avoid sympathizing with beggars pointing out that this is a significant problem for the UAE society. He also urged community members to contact the Operations Room to report beggars.
