The women police at the Ministry of Interior represented by the Emirates Women Police Association and the Specialized Coordinating Committee for Women Police Affairs at the Ministry will launch the “Women Police Read with Future Generation” initiative next week. This initiative aims to encourage school students to read and obtain knowledge.

Major Amina Mohamed Khamis Al Baloushi, Chairperson of the Emirates Women Police Association, underscored that this initiative aligns with and conforms to the framework of the 2016 ‘Year of Reading’ initiative in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched by the His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. “It also stems from our belief that reading is fundamental to creating a conscious generation capable of protecting and shaping their homeland- a generation able to give,” she said.

Reading Session
Major Al Baloushi explained that the Emirates Women Police Association’s initiative includes allocating one day per week to organizing reading sessions in primary schools countrywide. “During this session, a team of women police will be reading books to the students. The women will introduce the students to modern, correct reading methods, and demonstrate how to select age-appropriate books. The team members will also motivate the students to acquire knowledge through reading, in order to instill the love of reading within them,” she continued.

Additionally, Major Al Baloushi pointed out that as part of the initiative, a reading session will take place at the end of each week in parks throughout the United Arab Emirates. The session will target the Ministry of Interior’s staff members’ children, to encourage and motivate them to read. “This initiative will be implemented by teams of women police in each emirate, in cooperation and coordination with the educational agencies and institutions in the country,” she noted.

Customs, Traditions, and Honoring Parents
Major Al Baloushi noted that these sessions will focus on urging students to read and acquire knowledge from books describing Emirati customs and traditions. This will familiarize students with habits stemming from Islam and Arabic origins, such as traditional clothing, marriage customs, folk dances such as “Al Ayala” and other authentic Arabic arts, and Emirati customs and traditions. “They also aim to encourage students to read books on subjects relating to the protection of our homeland, which is a responsibility shared amongst all of us,” she indicated.

Furthermore, Major Al Baloushi stated that the women police teams will also introduce students to the concept of national identity; a national, religious and historical commitment towards values, customs, traditions, and mother tongue. “Honoring one’s parents is one of the important topics which we will focus on during the reading sessions, for God Almighty has accorded great importance to parental satisfaction,” she said.

Incentive Awards
Major Al Baloushi pointed out that valuable incentive prizes will be allocated for students who submit creative ideas which could be adopted and implemented to benefit society during the reading sessions. “This step encourages children to acquire knowledge through reading and link it with innovation,” she emphasized. She concluded that books are an important source of thinking and creativity; allowing the reader to dive into their depths to draw on information and facts to create imaginative and unique visions and ideas.
