The MoI Child Protection Center recently hosted an educational awareness lecture in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Education Council for members of the administrative and academic staff. The lecture called for concerted efforts amongst all segments of society to protect children from risks, and called upon community members to report any cases of abuse against children.

Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre delivered the lecture, by which he acquainted attendees with the emergency hotline for child protection; the types of child abuse and the proper ways to identify child abuse cases. He also tackled the investigation policy in cases of child abuse and how to respond to them and gave an overview of the services provided by the MoI Child Protection Center and the Ministry of Interior’s role in protecting children from dangers.

Moreover, Major Al Ali he explained the origins and development of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Centre (CPC), and the mechanism used to prepare and implement its strategy in child protection. He also referred to the establishment of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, which encompasses all of the concerned entities within the UAE. He also highlighted the efforts of the Centre in developing policies, procedures, guidelines and criteria for addressing abuse cases; as well as the threats to which children are exposed. He also shed the light on how the Centre organizes, evaluates, and implements the policies and procedures related to child protection at the Ministry of Interior.

Furthermore, he highlighted the Center’s role in reviewing practices in cases of children’s deaths and injuries, child abuse or other issues that affect the safety and protection of children, in addition to statistical data collection and analysis in order to identify the risks that threaten the safety of children in the UAE, and raise the level of awareness in society within the 14 dimensions on the area of child protection.

He also noted that the MoI has launched the toll-free (116111) hotline for receiving reports of child abuse cases. He confirmed that through this service, the Ministry seeks further cooperation with all segments of society and highlighted the importance of reporting any cases of abuse that children might face, as this is an important step to prevent or stop any attempts to harm children. He confirmed that the Center will immediately provide advice and support and will take the necessary action in this matter. “The Hotline is the first communication channel to allow community members to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect, in order to provide safety, security and protection for all children in the UAE,” he said.


Adding further, he said: “The safety and security of children is a top priority for the higher leadership in the UAE. The MoI continuously endeavors to enhance child protection efforts as per the best international practices adopted in developed countries, and in cooperation with other concerned entities and institutions under the umbrella of Higher Committee for Child Protection. The Higher Committee for Child Protection plays a key role in maintaining the safety of children, because achieving justice and protection for children is a shared responsibility.”

He confirmed that the UAE community has become more aware of child protection issues, which is evident in the eagerness to communicate with the police to report cases of abuse or neglect incidents faced by children from their parents or care givers. He called upon community members to communicate with the police to report any suspected child abuse incident. He also urged them to interact with awareness activities related to protection of children from abuse or neglect. He noted that the MoI Child Protection Center is ready to answer any questions or and queries.

Towards the end of his lecture, Major Al Ali called upon parents, children, and the administrative and academic staff to get acquainted with safety precautions and internet safe usage requirements, and learn how to report abuses that occur online. He noted that there are privacy settings and user’s age verification protocols that can be used in this regard, which also requires parents to be aware of the applications downloaded by their children on their device, and to ensure they are age-appropriate. They must warn their children against communicating and familiarizing with strangers.
