A delegation from the Federal Social Support at the Ministry of Interior visited the so-called “Sharjah Elderly” today, to check on his health condition and wellbeing, and inquire about his living and family conditions. The ministry indicated that the information that recently went viral on social media, which report the old man as being abandoned by his son on Maliha road in the central region; is false.
Colonel Mubarak bin Muhairom, General Director of Community Protection and Crime Prevention at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, noted that, a team from the Federal Social Support and Social Support Departments in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah was formed to investigate the case and uncover the truth by visiting the old man in his residence, and checking on his health condition and wellbeing, to make sure he is receiving proper care from his family.
The Ministry of Interior warned community members against spreading false information, or damaging rumors, stressing that such action is criminalized by the law, and condemned by traditions, regardless of the motives of the culprits. The ministry added that spreading false information; especially the ones that undermine the values of the conservative Emirati society, who cherishes his traditions, and compromise its interests; represents a direct offense to the country and community.
The ministry noted that people who resort to such these irresponsible and objectionable actions, which reflect a lack of positive patriotism, whether for fame, fun; or just to blindly imitate the behavior of others, are in violation of the law and will be held accountable.
The Ministry of Interior called upon citizens and residents to avoid spreading such rumors. The ministry explained that communication channels are available with the Community Police departments and social support centers across the UAE, which provide community members with accurate information and necessary services.
