The Development Leaders and Creativity Center of the General Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, launched the Future Leaders program at the ministry, which represents the first initiatives adopted by a Federal Ministry in the UAE, in order to achieve the development and innovation path of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Head of the Program Management Committee, said that this initiative aims to develop promising leaders, adding that the program embraces a comprehensive group of development efforts including a Masters studies and the development of leadership competencies and practical experience according to the latest global systems and practices implemented in this field.

He continued: “The program aims to achieve the strategic objectives of the ministry in preparing and qualifying young leaders, keeping skilled and competent employees, promoting the culture of high performance, providing leaders who have the needed skills and abilities in order to achieve the requirements of the Ministry of Interior and perfectly invest its human resources, in addition to ensuring the accomplishments of its ambitions and the aspirations of the society.”

Lieutenant Colonel Saif Hamid Al Der’i, Director of the Development Leaders and Creativity stressed that the program includes several stages. The first stage started by introductory tours which included all leaders and sectors of the Ministry of Interior. The second stage comprised the selection of candidates for the program through a number of steps such as receiving candidature requests and sorting submissions according to the adopted conditions. He also stated that the number of candidates reached 151 officers with ranks ranging from Lieutenant to Captain, and psychometric tests (mental aptitude and personality’s measure tests) were conducted. “72 officers were tested in the evaluation center and were subject to simulation exercises and role-playing based on leadership competencies adopted by the Ministry of Interior (including: strategic thinking, institutional planning, use of resources, management of performance, identification of trends, management of change, development of new leaders, empowerment and delegation), and the number of those who passed this stage was 32 officers,” he said.

Lt. Col. Al Der’i emphasized that the third and last stage included interviews conducted by the relevant committee of the management of the Future Leaders program allowing 10 applicant officers to enter the main program which will begin early next year. 

It is worth noting that the program management committee headed by Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior includes in its membership: Colonel Muhammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dahiri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General, the General Secretariat of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Colonel Faisal Al Sha’ibi, Head of Strategy and Performance Development Department in Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters; and Lieutenant Colonel Saif Al Der’i, Director of the Development Leaders and Creativity.
