Major General Staff Obeid Al Hiri Salim Al Kutbi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police, honored the Departments that obtained the Sports Excellence Shield, and contributed to the success of the sports season. Major General Al Kutbi also honored the liaison officers who had an active role in their departments and teams’ participation; as well as the top achievers and champions from the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, who obtained medals and achieved advanced international and local ranks. The honoring also included the teams that carried out distinguished activities and achieved advanced positions.
The honoring ceremony to recognize the achievements of the outstanding athletics and sponsors who contributed to the success of the sport season 2012-2013 took place at the Criminal Evidence Department’s theater at the GHQ. Attending were Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director General of Finance and Services; Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations; and Brigadier Fares Khalifa Al Farsi, Director General of Guards and Special Tasks in Abu Dhabi Police. Also present were Brigadier Dr. Saif Bou Dhfeera Al Ameri, Director General of Security and Ports Affairs; as well as a number of officers and honorees.
In a speech on this occasion, Major General Al Kutbi highlighted the importance of sports in all its forms, for being a vital component of occupational performance, enabling police officers to perform the tasks entrusted to them efficiently, quoting the old Roman saying: “a sound mind in a sound body”. Moreover, he congratulated the honorees and urged them to pursue further fair competition that promotes good ethics and enhances capabilities.
Furthermore, Major General Al Kutbi praised the unlimited support provided by the Higher Leadership to the sports activities, expressing his high hopes for the next season, which will see the sports teams achieve utmost success. At the end of the ceremony, H.E honored the winners and presented them with shields and certificates, as follows:
The Directorate General of Central Operations received the Abu Dhabi Police General Commander Shield.
Al Ain Police Directorate obtained the Excellence Shield, while the Government and Diplomatic Facilities Protection Department won the Sports Excellence s Shield.
On the same note, Colonel Waleed Al Shamsi received the Excellence Shield for his contribution to the success of sports activities and the shooting teams. Moreover, appreciation certificates were distributed to ten departments that have been instrumental in the success of the sports season; 16 liaison officers, and non-commissioned officers also received certificates for contributing effectively to the participation of their departments and teams.
Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police also honored the top achievers and champions, namely:
The Women Olympic Shooting Team of “13” officers and non-commissioned officers; the Tug-of-war team of “19” non-commissioned officers; along with the administrative Corporal Ali Abdullah who ranked second in the “Iron Man Team”.
The honoring also included the Volleyball Team, second place winner; the Traditional Rowing team that ranked second, and the Pentathlon Team who finished third.
