Abu Dhabi Police has warned against begging emails via WhatsApp and social media sites that ask for help in unregulated ways, explaining that it is a crime against the law and is run by fraudulent gangs, targeting members of the community indiscriminately.

ADP stressed the need not to comply with the fictitious requests of fraudsters, pointing to the continuation of their messages as they found interaction or response from the victim and urged the need to ignore the response and report their contents to the competent police authorities to take action.

The reasons for begging in general and its focus during Ramadan were attributed to the lack of initiative of some members of society to report beggars, which is why they should continue to achieve their illicit aims, noting that electronic begging is a similar image of traditional begging, which involves misleading methods and tricks, dramatic stories and fabricated narratives aimed at draining the victims' savings by providing charitable assistance to individuals and fictitious destinations.

ADP stressed the continuation of its efforts to address this scourge, through the "inspection, awareness and control" campaigns that contributed to the reduction of crime, the elimination of behaviors that give a negative impression on society, and the continuation of its efforts in raising awareness through social networking sites and various media, which contributes to the strengthening of crime prevention and spread of tranquility.

ADP invited the public who receive e-mails for begging to contact The Command and Control Centre 999 and The Safety Service on Toll Free (AMAN2626), by text message (2828), via email (aman@adpolice.gov.ae) or through the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters Smartphone App.
