The General Directorate of Civil Defense Abu Dhabi is implementing an awareness initiative under the slogan "Safe Ramadan", as part of the proactive measures to receive the holy month of Ramadan, which is to raise the level of preparedness and readiness to deal with emergencies, and to develop strategic plans that meet the needs of the stage.

Colonel Engineer Mohammed Salem Habboush, Director of the Department of Civil Protection and Safety, explained that plans have been prepared to raise the readiness of field teams at the level of personnel and mechanisms, calling on families to check safety requirements in the kitchens of houses with frequent operation of cooking stoves and electrical appliances, and air intercession stained with oils, and to take care of the risks of domestic accidents while preparing breakfast and suhoor.

He he noted the risks and accidents that are more likely to occur during the holy month in household kitchens, including accidents caused by oil ignition during frying of food using gas stoves, electrical fires caused by non-distribution of loads, or the use of non-conforming connections.

He urged housewives and domestic workers to be careful when frying with oil, to avoid the fire hazards caused by contactwith oil to the sources of flames and to ensure the safety of electrical and gas extensions, and called for the need to follow the protection and safety guidelines to avoid these risks. 

He stressed the importance of adopting high quality and efficient electrical appliances to deliver electricity to household appliances such as refrigerators, suction fans and air conditioners, providing manual extinguishers, fire blankets and first aid kits, and installing smoke detectors inside homes to avoid catastrophic accidents.

He warned of the importance of using electric fryers in food processing to avoid the risk of oil burning, as well as not using the hand to move meat during chopping, and making sure that the power is disconnected when cleaning the chopping machines and keeping them out of the reach of children.

He  stressed the need for safety supplies, manual fire extinguishers and smoke detectors to be available in all home kitchens, and to know how to use them in emergencies.

He urged homeowners and restaurants to check gas pipelines and not to leave cylinders exposed to direct sunlight, to inspect exposed electrical networks, to conduct regular maintenance of equipment and household appliances, and warned of fire accidents in vehicles as a result of neglecting periodic maintenance.
