The Western Region Police Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters participates in an awareness initiative under the title: “Your Safety is Precious.” This awareness initiative is taking place on the sidelines of the Al Gharbia Watersports Festival 2013 held in Al Mirfa.

It includes marketing activities regarding police services in addition to cultural, traditional, and entertainment activities for festival visitors and participants.

Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, said: “Our participation reflects the Abu Dhabi Police strategy to communicate with the public at events in order to deliver the police message that aims to raise security awareness, achieve safety for everyone, increase public trust in police services, and enhance the police efforts for society’s safety and security.”

Colonel Ojeil stressed the important role of visitors in supporting police efforts and security forces, in order to maintain order and help bring success to this year’s festival.

He highlighted his confidence in the public’s cooperation to maintain safety and security alongside the organizers and different police and security forces. “This civilized event represents a major part of the UAE’s heritage, reflecting its citizens’ concern,” said Colonel Ojeil wishing everybody an enjoyable festival.

The activities of the Western Region Police Directorate include a photo gallery to introduce the public to the police’s historical role in maintaining security and safety. The directorate will also set up a majlis to receive public members and respond to their suggestions in order to enhance police services. Activities will include educational tours for visitors and participants in the sporting events as well. The directorate will contact the public directly and exchange information with them to introduce them to the initiative’s goals. The police will distribute brochures, leaflets and booklets to educate visitors and participants on the dangers of the sea and other risks that endanger the safety of children on beaches.

The activities will also include traditional, educational, and entertainment activities with hundreds of gifts for winners and participants at the police competitions this year. Moreover, Al Mirfa Corniche Theatre will hold educational, cultural and traditional competitions with valuable gifts for all ages from the Western Region Police Directorate.

The 5th Al Gharbia Watersports Festival recently started on the Al Mirfa Corniche in the Western Region (Al Gharbia), and will continue through the 27th of April.

This annual event helps to better position the Western Region on the local and global tourism map. The fifth edition of this festival includes new developments such as the “60 ft Dhow Sailing Race,” the first of its kind in the Western Region. This event will fulfill the public’s needs and allow them to participate in training courses, enjoy different shows for adults and children, and receive an introduction to cultural heritage through the public market.

In addition to the Western Region Police Directorate, Al Gharbia Sports Club, Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club, Western Region Municipality, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club, and Higher Colleges of Technology, Madinat Zayed, and Ruwais Colleges organize and support the festival.
