USAR Team Leaders Meeting kicks off in Abu Dhabi

Al Raisi: UAE extends hands to the people everywhere in different crisis

 

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi Director General of Abu Dhabi Police’s Central Operations confirmed that UAE is extending hands to the people of the world in various circumstances and troubles, adopting scientific and international criteria at the same time.

This has been expressed at the speech he has delivered at the kick off of the USAR Team Leaders Meeting held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi Tuesday. The two-day meeting was attended by representatives from the United Nations and the INSARAG and a number of senior Abu Dhabi Police officers and 80 delegations representing 34 countries across the world.

Major General Al Raisi has conveyed the regards of Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. He said represents a modern gesture which assures the attention and keenness of our higher leadership that keeps supporting all forms of international cooperation with the purpose to boost peaceful efforts worldwide.

He pointed out that this meeting offers more and more expertise through discussing the 2010 and 2011 strategies of USAR team leaders, experiences during Haiti and Indonesia earthquakes, quality and level of medical services offered by search and rescue teams to their members and to the affected people in the struck countries, the experience of the UAE search and rescue team and an idea about the stages of creating this team and its achievements during the past period.

He clarified that the meeting cares for setting a new concept to the evaluation list for the team levels through which rating principles for the teams will be laid down. Specialized workshops will also be organized as part of this meeting. The findings of the international knowledge in the fields of search and rescue and the tactics adopted internationally as well as the UAE's experience in this field will be presented at these workshops. 

He asserted UAE full commitment to all the rules and regulations which organize the work of search and rescue teams worldwide. In this occasion we renew pledge to our leaders to continue our efforts and make more achievements in the course of the UAE Search and Rescue Team and achieve our ambitions towards registering it as a "heavy weight team" in the world. This is yet another responsibility to give more humanitarian assistance for the victims of disasters and in the different search and rescue operations after the UAE team has received the international accreditation with "excellent degree" to be the first team in the Middle East and Africa to gain such high position.

For his part Abdul Haqq Omairi, Director of the UN Humanitarian Assistance Regional Office has lauded the UAE role as a strategic partner in the Middle East and the world.

He praised the Abu Dhabi Police’s pioneering role in the region and the world in providing humanitarian assistance to the areas struck by disasters. He also praised its role in holding such a meeting which attracted many delegations and search and rescue teams to further boost joint relations and share expertise
