Two visitors carrying 36 forged credit cards arrested at Abu Dhabi Airport
In a vigilant move Abu Dhabi Police has arrested two Asian visitors at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The visitors were carrying with them 36 fake credit cards having balance credits stolen for buying valuable items from the Airport Duty free shops.
Colonel Khalid Ahmed Al Hamadi, Director of CID at ADP said “The Organized Crime Section received a tip off about two Asians trying to fly on board one of the Airlines flight and are carrying fake credit cards. The police immediately took action to coordinate security agencies and with Abu Dhabi Airport security Authorities to arrest them”.
As soon as they entered the airport, they were thoroughly searched. Both of them were carrying 18 forged credit cards. One was also carrying three expensive watches which he had bought through one of the fake credit cards he was holding. The credit card number was stolen previously from a Western Duty Free before their coming to Abu Dhabi.
According to Lt. Colonel (Dr.) Rashid Mohammad Bu Rasheed, Head of the Organized Crime Section, CID at ADP the suspects identified as T.Sh. 32 years and L. S. 31 years. They were using this method to make illegal money, by using fake credit cards stolen from balances and serial numbers worldwide. The amounts on those cards were not big but they were enough to buy valuable items, it was found.
Both suspects admitted their crime and their intension to buy valuable items from Duty Free Shops in Abu Dhabi International Airport. When they return back to their country they will throw away the cards. One of them claimed that he had bought the cards from the black market abroad for Dh 10,800. The other one also said the same.
The Interpol at the Ministry of Interior was approached to contact the authorities concerned in their country to take necessary legal action to get them back. Further Investigations with them are now under way.
The Head of Organized Crime Section, CID at ADP urges businessmen and the public to report any loss of their credit cards or when they fall victims to fraudulent acts. Quick actions are essential in hunting the criminals and arresting them in a record time. He added.
Penal Federal law No. (3) of 1987 says the punishment for the forging crimes forging official documents is 3 to 10 years imprisonment. Unofficial documents one month to 3 years. Forging government stamps entails prison punishment from 3 to 15 years. He added and urged the public to be very vigilant about such crimes.
