Two speeding  vehicles snapped by the mobile radar "Sniper"
on Abu Dhabi-Dubai Road

ADP Traffic and Patrols Department was able to snap by use of the mobile radar "The Sniper" two drivers, one driving a Ferrari and the other a Bentley, on Abu Dhabi-Dubai High way, while they were speeding over 200km/h, (250 and 213km/h).

The Traffic patrols immediately took necessary action, seized the vehicles and the drivers were referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action, as stated by Colonel (Engineer) Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of ADP Traffic and Patrols Department.

Al Harthi said "The two motorists were driving their cars at crazy speed without paying attention to traffic rules, the signboards showing the speed limits of the road and even the signboards indicating that the road was under radar trap".

"The speeds of the cars, one at 250km/h and the other at 213km/h, indicated that drivers were in a kind of a race track like Formula 1 race track, and not on a public highway having traffic rules and regulations to abide by", added Al Harthi.

"The laws will not be lenient with reckless drivers who endanger their own lives and those of other road users. Unfortunately there is a small number of reckless drivers who flout traffic laws, and who requires a tough action against their negative and crazy behaviors to prevent tragedies and death of innocent victims on our roads", added Al Harthi.

Colonel Al Harthi has affirmed that ADP will firmly continue implementing tough laws on reckless drivers to protect the lives of other road users.

He said "Stopping of the bloodshed on roads is a joint responsibility between police and the public in order to make our roads free of tragic accidents".

Al Harthi has affirmed that traffic controls on roads will continue at Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region. Undercover and ordinary patrol cars provided with the radar 'The Sniper', will participate in the campaign. Also there will be awareness campaigns within the framework of a comprehensive traffic control strategy with a view to curb serious violations which lead to severe accidents and the resulting deaths and severe injuries.

He has warned drivers, especially the youth who speed excessively or perform uncivilized acts on the roads such as racing, to be aware of the new "Sniper" radar which is capable of catching all kinds of traffic offences.

It is worth mentioning that dangerous driving or racing on the roads entails a fine up to Dh2,000, 12 traffic black points and confiscation of vehicle for 30 days.
