Two Emiratis killed in a tragic accident
Two Emirati men were killed in a tragic traffic accident in Um Ghafa Area, Al Ain. The vehicle which they were traveling in overturned and was thrown from the vehicle. Then the vehicle caught fire and was completely destroyed.
An initial investigation revealed that the four-wheel drive vehicle had been illegally modified.
Lt. Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Blushi, Head of Al Ain Traffic Police Section. Said "The 21-year-old driver, identified as Aa.Kh.Aa, and the 16-year-old passenger, identified as J. S. M., were traveling in a four-wheel drive modified vehicle".
The accident took place when the vehicle was on a dual carriageway and swerved to the right of the road shoulder. Due to speeding the driver lost control and the vehicle skidded onto the other side of the road and landed in a sandy area where it caught fire after overturning several times.
Al Blushi stated that the two young men died during the accident when they were thrown from the vehicle due to the impact.
He stressed the need not to add any mechanical modifications to vehicles which lead to speeding and loss of control. These modifications include headers, turbo charger, modified exhausts and other equipment. Such items push a vehicle to perform beyond its structural limits and lead to loss of control, crashes and car fires.
He urged parents to keep close eye on their children and advise them to drive safely, especially during summer vacation when they resort to unbecoming behaviors to fill their leisure time.
Lt. Colonel Al Blushi urged parents to monitor their children and advise them to avoid practices that not only endanger other people's lives, but also their own. They should follow up their children especially late at night and they should know their friends.
He also urged motorists to abide by all safety measures and take care while driving to ensure their own safety and that of others. He mentioned the need to ensure the condition of tyres, especially in the summer season.
