Traffic accidents in UAE declines
due to the implementation of strict Traffic Laws

 

Deaths resulting from road accidents have dropped by 10.7% in the country due to implementation of Federal Traffic Law during the period from 1st march 2008 to 1st march 2010. Knock down accidents by 16.82%, vehicle collision by 6.36%, vehicle overturning by 3.59% and offences have increased by 33.94%, said Brigadier Gheith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director general of Traffic Coordination at MoI. The increase in traffic offences is due to the increase in traffic control operations, in addition to the deployment of radars on main roads and streets.

He reveals a plan to motivate committed drivers and to offer strict punishments to offenders. The implementation of the law is a successful step by the Ministry as it unifies procedures, offences and punishments all over the country, in order to extend safety and security to all road users.

He warns individuals against reckless driving and response to bad behaviors that lead to drastic consequences, particularly youth shows of stunt.

Some nationals and residents have expressed their with MoI procedures to confront traffic accidents and reduction of their numbers. They consider the Federal Traffic Law a valuable step to maintain people safety on roads. They have indicated the decline of negative behaviors and reduction of accidents rates.

The national Ahmed Al Teneiji says the law has maintained its sustainability as the rate of accidents has declined. It is a deterrent against youth category who tend to rive recklessly.

Mr. Khalid Jad Allah, an Egyptian, believes that unification of laws is a grantee for their implementation by individuals. The law has contributed to reduction of accidents and the increase of traffic awareness.

The national (Dr.) Ali Al Amri, says, the law is a concrete development and a step forward. It has increased individuals abide by the law and its instructions. But some fines should be reconsidered so as to suit the financial circumstances of individuals.

Mr. Hussain Ahmed, a Yemeni, indicates the importance of educating individuals on traffic law and regulations. Understanding of law will help in avoiding mistakes during driving. It contains many items aiming at achieving safety on roads.

 

Al Zaabi: Intensive activities for traffic awareness

 

Brigadier Al Zaabi says MoI spreads traffic awareness among the public in collaboration with universities, higher colleges of technology, Ministry of Education and Educational Zones in the country, through lectures, awareness seminars, organized traffic campaigns by specialists, sportsmen and artists in accordance with their objectives and strategic priorities.

He urges media authorities to make more efforts to educate the public on law respect culture and compliance with traffic rules, for the sake of their lives, to avoid offences and financial fines. The reduction of deaths is one the most important challenges that MoI and other relevant parties face. 

It is important to find legislations that ensure the people safety and safe crossing of roads and streets. He urges Municipalities to execute pedestrian tunnels and to close undesignated spots, to avoid knock down accidents. Safe place for cycling and motor bikes should be assigned. Systems
