Continuing its visit to the UAE, the Spanish Ministry of Interior delegation visited today a number of departments at the Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs, and the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, to review their various tasks and functions. Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate, met the delegation members at his office, and discussed with them means of training cooperation in the field of traffic safety as part of the strategy to benefit from developed countries’ expertise to qualify its human cadre in traffic-related fields.
The delegation included Colonel Francisco Espadas Santana, Director of International Cooperation Department in the Spanish Ministry of Interior, along with head of the delegation Colonel Alfonzo Frailly, Lt. Colonel Manuel Navarati, Lt. Colonel Jose Santiago and Major Jesus Antonio. The meeting was also attended by a number of officers from the ADP Traffic and Patrols Directorate.
The delegation watched a presentation showcasing the positive achievements in traffic safety indicators during the period between 2010 and 2012, namely; reducing the number of injuries caused by traffic accidents to 33 %, deaths to 34 % and serious injuries to 25 %. Also among the achievements, reducing mortality rate by 35% per 100 thousand people; the deaths rate per 10 thousand registered vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by 46%; and the deaths rate per 10 thousand license holder by 50% compared to international rates.
The delegation members were also briefed on the future plan of the Directorate and the Abu Dhabi’s traffic program to prevent traffic accidents through social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. They also were acquainted with the community-based initiatives launched by Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate, which include “the Best Young Driver” initiative; the “Best Family Abiding with Traffic Rules” initiative; the “Best School Abiding with Traffic Rules”, and the “Best Labor Camp Abiding with Traffic Rules” Initiatives. Both parties exchanged memorial gifts at the end of the meeting.
Moreover, both Security Inspection Department and Firearms and Explosives Department at the Directorate General of Security and Ports Affairs discussed security and training cooperation with the Spanish Ministry of Interior delegation.
Colonel Jamal Habash, Director of the Security Inspection Department (K9), noted that the Spanish delegation headed by Colonel Francisco Espadas Santana, Director of International Cooperation Department at the Spanish Ministry of Interior, reviewed the department’s various tasks and development stages. The delegation was also acquainted with the Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts in training the police sniffer dogs rescue team, which participated in local, regional and international rescue operations, and acquired international accreditation in the rescue field.
The delegation also visited the veterinary clinic, which recently gained accreditation in the quality field, and was briefed on the medical and food care provided for dogs. Moreover, it was agreed to schedule a visit for an ADP delegation to the Spanish Police Museum, which is one of the biggest specialized museums in Europe, to benefit from the Spanish experience to establish the Abu Dhabi Police museum.
In the same context, Lt. Colonel Khaled Al Shehhi, Head of the Investigation Section at the Firearms and Explosives Department, gave the delegation a brief summary, accompanied by a documentary, on the department and its tasks.
