Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, was briefed on Wednesday, on the distinguished skills of the country’s youth, who are taking part in Emirates Skills National Competition 2013. The competition, organized by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET), is held at the Abu Dhabi International Exhibition Centre.

His Highness toured the various halls, and attended some competitions among male and female Emirati students, notably the aircraft engines maintenance contest; the optical fiber connections competition; the report competition; the nursing competition; and the electrical wiring competition, among others. Accompanying His Highness were Director of the Secretariat of His Highness the Minister of Interior; Engineer Hussain Al Hammadi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET); Mubarak Al Shamsi, ACTVET Deputy Director-General; and Ali Al Marzouki, President of Emirates Skills and a number of officials.

His Highness was given an overview of the successful experience of the Institute of Applied Technology at the Fatima College of Health Sciences (FCHS), to provide the medical sector in the state with qualified national cadres.

His Highness also met a group of participating students. “You are fortunate to have the full and generous patronage from the Higher Leadership, which endeavors to provide you with the technical, financial and moral resources to help you improve your skills in various fields,” His Highness said.

Moreover, His Highness urged students to pursue further excellence in their educational attainment and to keep abreast of the latest technological methods and tools, to enhance and develop their competencies and creativity.

For his part, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, also visited the competition halls. He indicated that this event embodies the Leadership’s keenness to invest the creative energies of Emirati students since childhood, and prepare them to serve the engineering and technological progress needed to implement the state’s strategic plan, which is aligned with the Abu Dhabi Government's Economic Vision 2030.

Al Nahyan also lauded the skillful scientific and academic high-level of Emirati youth, which proves that they have all the necessary potentials to take part in the various international competitions, and fulfill the requirements of economic development, coveted by the State’s Leadership.

In the same context, and after touring the competition halls, H.E Humaid Al Qutami, Minister of Education, emphasized the ministry’s keenness to develop a strong and efficient partnership with the Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET), as part of the Emirates Skills program. This program aims to identify innovative students since the early education stages in the various schools across the country, and work with the concerned relevant institutions to hone their skills to achieve the ultimate national goal of developing a qualified and skillful national cadre. This embodies the Abu Dhabi Government’s Strategic Plan, and contributes to achieve the UAE Economic Vision 2020. “The competition has achieved significant success, and provided moral support to encourage students to demonstrate all their skills and innovations during the competition,” Al Qutami stated.

The three-day competition kicked off yesterday, under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, and the Supreme Chairperson of Family Development Foundation (FDF). A total of 425 male and
